What transpires internally when someone hurts you
Do you scamper and hide, or stand up against it
Does a fiery anger begin to ignite something within
Erratically displayed, or tucked unwilling to admit
Withdrawing, it's emotionally safe within my world
As I strategically create solid walls around my heart
No one can attack me in the confines of my safe haven
I'm now psychologically imprisoned, unable to depart
I recklessly squash down those angry feelings that arise
Much like an airport with baggage stacked in a pile
My heart & mind crammed to the capacity of anxiety
Then all physical systems black out, displacing the smile
Hiding behind these walls poisons me while hurting others
For obscured anger is rich soil allowing anything to grow
Roots of bitterness clawing through internal mechanisms
With flowering bushes of resentment sucking joy from below
Implanted thoughts to water these plants with alcohol
I only acquire an idol replacing my only true Savior
When the pleasant euphoria wears off, the walls still exist
Plants growing deeper demonstrated by shocking behavior
Perpetual clouds start to emerge preventing clear vision
Critical words of attack verbalized, utilizing no discretion
Ultimately Satan quickly surrounds me before pouncing
Bringing on notions of utter weakness with depression
Feeling like a society outcast, judged by others harshly
Only adds to the cold pain, thickening the hardened bars
Until a hand is reached out, pulling me up from the slime
Healing begins a process, leaving behind emotional scars
"Your faith has healed you" is repeated within the Bible
The Word of God eliminates bondage that cause disarray
Busting loose by verbally communicating and confessing
Yet we always self destruct before doing it God's way

30 And do not bring sorrow to God's Holy Spirit by the way you live.
Remember, he is the one who identified you as his own, guaranteeing that you
will be saved on the day of redemption. 31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage,
anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. 32
Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as
God through Christ has forgiven you.
Ephesians 4:30-32 (New Living Translation)
The person who courts sin, marries trouble; build a wall, invite a burglar.
Proverbs 17:19 (The Message)
