Steering The Wheels Of Life

It would be prudent to remain clear of the streets
As our youth quickly achieve a license to drive a car
One careless teenager behind the wheel scares me
The responsibility for the lives of others, never far

Somehow, we always trust ourselves more than others
Focusing on ourselves, while a step away from disaster
Our attitude of perfection or even possibly pride stands
Poor qualities that can only bring storms of life faster

We get behind the wheel, steering our life down paths
Coming to a rigid bend or curve, we crash and burn
How dangerous are we then, driving without a license
Thinking we have all the answers, without any concern

We zoom in our busy lives to achieve ultimate success
Passing up our last exit, in a trail of dust consumed air
If only we had been going slower, to see that road
Left now only to empty destruction, and lonely despair

Driving a car is no safer, or different than steering our lives
When it comes to safety, both have the means to supply
The car with seat belts, and our lives with a loving God
Both of which receive arguments, and we can so easily deny

If God were sincerely driving, you would have to wait
Being taught the lesson of patience, sitting in rush hour
The environment around you would become clearer
Seeing through the petty little things, manifest his power

You fight over the steering wheel, much like your burdens
Lifting them up to Him, you play tug of war time and again
If you quit firmly gripping the wheel, control would be taken
With blessings showered, instead of you asking "when?"

Will you abidingly trust the One who so created you?
Do you think "you" can endure life, all on your own?
I have learned that a loving Father knows my needs
Yes I have "wants", yet I rejoice in what He has shown

Jonah tried hiding, Saul was destroyed and Peter denied
Now God watches over you, awaiting your honest reaction
Spend some time in prayer, thanking Him for blessings
Today is the time for peace within, and complete satisfaction
