Reflections for 2010

Reflections

By
Connie Hanten

My reflections for this month revolve around all that God has been doing in my life. This journey He is taking me on has been amazing. It is hard to believe that we have been living in PA for three years now. It is hard to believe that I will soon be in my Jr. year at Liberty University, and God has been faithful in assisting me as a full time student. It is nothing short of an evidence of God when an "academically challenged" person, makes the Deans' List and has obtained a 3.50 GPA. I am amazed at the trans-formative power that the Holy Spirit has placed in me, in preparation for this call on my life to be a Psychologist/ Christian Counselor.

There have been storms along the way to rock this boat, having  continual health problems and other situations that have crossed my path, have kept me on my knees. Unexpected events, like both of my children having their first child within a month of each other, is teaching me how to administer grace in areas where it would be so easy to condemn and criticize. They have bore witness to my failures and sins, and  know that I am the last one who should judge them for choices that have left them to step outside the boundaries God has placed for His children.

I am excited to be a Grandma, and the time is coming quickly for my first to make her appearance to this world. I am so blessed to be having a grand-daughter and grandson, and know both of my children will make awesome parents!

Being placed in the role of helping aging parents is a difficult one as well. I adore my mom and dad, and having watched them both decline over these 3 years has been very hard. My father has lost his eyesight, and my mom is left to carry on the household affairs for both of them. I am so use to seeing him be active and full of life, and know that he feels so useless to anyone now. But he is very wrong as just his presence with us does more than he could possibly imagine.

There have been blessings along the way also. My wonderful husband is such a terrific support to me in everything I have endeavored to do. A change in his employment has enabled me to not worry about seeking employment but to solely focus on getting my Bachelors degree. He has helped me to gain the confidence I have been lacking for so long in my value and abilities. Being loved like he has loved me is such a wonderful gift. I admire him and treasure him for who he is and all that he contributes to my life and our marriage.

God is good, even when situations look not so good. In sharing my life with you, I hope you have found encouragement to keep perservering in your life, whatever circumstance you find yourself in right now. Our Heavenly Father knows all about you. Where you are and where you've been and where He is taking you. Trust Him! Lean on Him and His strength in difficult times and He will see you through, and in the wonderful moments of your life don't forget to praise Him.
